You need to season the humidor before placing any cigars in there, otherwise the dry spanish cedar will suck the moisture out of them.

You need to fill the humidifier with 'cigar juice' - a 50/50 solution of propylene glycol to distilled water. It can be found at any decent cigar shop. In addition to this, place a small bowl of distilled water in there. It can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

  1. Whoever told you to fill your humidor with anything liquid is out of their mind!! You’ll warp the wood and your humidor wont seal properly! I assume your humidor came with a humidification device of some sort, most look like a round disk with a sponge or clay inside. Soak the humidifier in distilled water (you dont need all those crazy solutions and they can give a ‘taste’ to your cigars after a while) for a few minutes til completely saturated, leave it in the humidor for 24 hrs before adding your cigars. After that, just put your cigars in and keep it shut unless you’re getting one out. You have to make sure that the humidifier stays moist, check it every couple days and resoak as needed. They sell a tube humidifier called Drymistat that has a clear gel inside, these hold moisture for a long time, if you can find one, they’re worth the $10 they cost
