Have you ever gone to dinner in a fancy French restaurant and asked to see the wine list? Depending on your familiarity with the world of wine and the French language, chances are you felt lost and a little overwhelmed before you turned the second page.
For most people that are interested in famous Cuban cigars, this is the same feeling they get when they start to consider all the high quality brands that are made by America's closest neighbor to the South.
If you're interested in getting a basic knowledge of all well known Cuban brands, Bolivar is a good place to start.
Bolivar is definitely one of the most famous Cuban cigars, but like most of the brands that come out of this country, it is made in two separate ways. There are Bolivar cigars that are made in the Dominican Republic featuring Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco, and then there are Bolivar cigars that are made inside the country of Cuba by Habanos SA, which is the name for the Cuban state-owned tobacco company.
Because of its communist government, Cuba is forbidden from exporting its tobacco products to some countries. For this reason, almost all Cuban cigar companies are forced to operate two different divisions.
As one of the most famous Cuban cigars, it's important to know the history of the Bolivar brand. These cigars first hit the market in 1901, so they are considered to fairly new in comparison to the brands that started in the 19th century.
The brand is named after the celebrated Venezuelan warrior Simon Bolivar who is credited for liberating the portion of South America that is today known as Venezuela, Columbia, Peru and Bolivia. Such a powerful man deserves a powerful cigar, and that's exactly what Bolivar tobacco is known for.
When you are smoking famous Cuban cigars, it's important to be ready for the flavor. Unlike the lighter, sweeter flavors that you might have encountered with other bands, Bolivar cigars are robust and powerful. They are usually not a good idea for beginner smokers, unless it's already been determined that they can handle a powerful flavor and distinct smoke.
There are over twenty different versions of the Bolivar cigar available in various markets around the world. Almost all of them are rated above and 8 by reputable magazines and ranking agencies. If you're looking for a premium cigar that will make you sit up and pay attention while you smoke it, try the Bolivar.
